Remember the days as a child playing sport with your friends or at school, the excitement of trying to win and the enjoyment of competing. Or just running around after each other playing games, remember feeling tired but you kept going because of the enjoyment. These are the days when we are highly active and for most the fittest times your life.
So whatever happened to those days of running around like a lunatic, laughing and just having fun....we got old! The day we leave school the majority of us go on a downhill sledge, introduction into smoking, drinking, girl/boy friends. This is the time our health takes a bit of a beating, instead of fun games running around the games tend to be how many shots can you down in one night, how many points you can score on the playstation or how long you can actually stay in bed without before getting up to eat!
Just this morning I played a game of badminton (badly might I add) and the thrill of wanting to win came rushing back although I got my backside kicked for the first three games I was determined more than ever the beat him at least once.....I never did but it was close. After that we got a basket ball out and had a game of one and one, this time I was not going to lose. And yes I won (ha). As sad as this may sound it was the best bit of fun I’ve had in ages.
Being a Liverpool personal trainer I have done nothing but Train in gym’s all these years which, has been great but also boring at times. When analysing the movements I had done over the 90 minutes playing sport I had used every muscle in my body and I was completely shattered but felt great at the same time.
So my point is you don’t have to go the gym. Get yourself out there with a friend and start playing a sport that you love, be a kid again and start enjoying it. Apart from all the health benefits that come with sport and the enjoyment you get from competing, it also helps give you drive and determination to win. Some people see this as a bad thing but I beg to differ. If you want things in life you must have some drive and determination to get it because it will not fall at your feet!
So get up off your backside and start enjoying the fun of sport.
