Motivation techniques

by Lewis Bailey - personal training Liverpool

Lewis's Profile

Motivation is the single most significant factor when trying to achieve what we want out of life. Whether it’s a change in body shape, lifestyle, developing new relationships or pursuing the career you really want, it all boils down to motivation.

You can truly achieve anything you want in life so long as you have the desire and determination to do it. Yet, a shocking 95% of my personal training clients have a problem with their motivation and therefore achieving their goals.

If you really WANT to achieve something in life then you must make a decision and COMMIT to it. Get excited by your vision and think about it every day. Act upon it immediately and don’t put it off untill tomorrow what you can do today.

When you have decided what it is you want to achieve you must formulate a plan of how to do it. Try following successful people which have already achieved your goal. Success leaves clues so don’t waste time trying to reinvent the wheel, just take a look at someone else’s pattern and how they have done it and use it to your advantage.

Once your plan has been formulated, set a time line to achieve it but be realistic. If you can only spare one hour per day then make sure you give yourself enough time to meet your deadline. Then take action and do it right now, make it your mission, never deviate from your master plan and keep working towards your goals.

Pit falls

Most people fail to exercise because, quite simply, life gets in the way. But other people may have other disadvantages including:

Time

Money

Physical disadvantage

Mental disadvantage (weakness)

These four factors are common excuses people use for not achieving their goals. But they are only conditions in life, so with the right mental attitude they are only small obstacles to manoeuvre around. The truth is nobody is going to achieve your goal for you; you must overcome whatever barriers are hindering your progress.

It will not be a simple straight line from A to B, there will be many obstacles that will test you along the way and you may need to go from A to C before getting to B. So look at which one of these affect you and work out what you can do to manoeuvre round your obstacle.

If you think this is impossible to get past then you need to focus more on your mental state and get help or advice from others that have made it.

But remember nothing is impossible, ask Duncan Bannatyne if he was given money to make his millions or did he start from nothing, ask Lance Armstrong how he won the Tour de France 7 times after being diagnosed with testicular cancer, how did Wilma Rudolf win 3 Olympic gold medals in the 100, 200 and 4 by 100 meters after being diagnosed with polio and being told she would never walk again.

These are just a few examples of determined individuals who have been given huge obstacles in life and have achieved the goals of their dreams.

So follow patterns similar to these or other success stories, make your decision on what you want, get excited by what you want and take massive action right now!
